Here is something my sister and I are working on.... turning this fabric into a quilt!

Guess what this fabric is from?!? If you guessed crib bedding you are correct!

A family member contacted us about taking her little girl's crib bedding and making it into a quilt for her big girl bed. Love this idea! I think it's a great way to reuse materials you already have and make it a sweet keepsake.

So far all of the fabric has been seam ripped and washed. It's waiting to be cut as we finalize the plans. We're doing a disappearing 9 patch pattern. There is a great tutorial here.

If you have kiddos, what did you do with the crib bedding? Future parents, remember this it might come in handy some day! :)

Thrift Store Finds: Fabric!

I love finding good deals on fabric at thrift stores. Most of my fabric stash is made up from thrift store finds, gifts, and rummage buys. My goal price is always $1 a yard or less, unless if it's something that I'm willing to splurge a little more on. I only buy fabric at Joanns or Hobby Lobby when I absolutely need a certain kind and then I use coupons as well!

I found this fabric the other day at a thrift store:

{4 yards of a lightweight knit green fabric and 4 3/4 yards of navy pinstripe suiting type  fabric}

This stuff came out to just under 75 cents a yard!

Thrift Store Finds and a Fabric Buying Tip

Here's some fabric I found at the thrift store yesterday!

I looooove the vintage floral.

And guess what?!?! They're bed sheets!

I love getting fabric that doesn't cost a lot. Bed sheets are also great because they can be wider than a normal bolt and you've got a couple yards.  

If you're in need of some new fabric check out the bedding section of your local thrift shops! Be sure to look them over a bit too to see how worn they are. These ones were in perfect shape!

Last week I received a quilt tree letter, like a chain letter, where you send fabric squares. I'm looking for 2 more people to send squares to. Any fabric hoarders, quilters, or people who love mail and fabric out there want to join me? I'd love to make some new connections too!

What's involved is mailing 2 fabric squares with purple in it to the 3 people on the list in the letter and then to 4 of your friends along with the letter. You will then be receiving many squares in return. Considering people follow through, of course!
